HAZEL YUHANG ZAEVA ZHANG

My practice spans a wide array of mediums, each rooted in an exploration of how the environment, community, and personal identity intersect. My work seeks to uncover the nuanced ways in which these elements intertwine and inform one another.
In my earlier artistic endeavors, I was particularly drawn to the relationship between architecture, landscape, and folding. This exploration led me to consider how architectural structures influence our perceptions and experiences of the world around us. By incorporating folding into my work, I sought to show how these structures can transform, both physically and metaphorically, unveiling new dimensions and viewpoints.
The connection between landscapes and identity has always fascinated me. In my art, I delve into how landscapes are not just reflections of our identities but also active participants in shaping them. My goal is to explore the complex interactions between individuals and their environments, and how these relationships mold our sense of self and belonging.
Having recently completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts at the University of British Columbia, I've been able to further refine my skills and conceptual framework. My works have been displayed at the Hatch Art Gallery, featured in the Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival, and published in SAD MAG, among other venues. These experiences have not only showcased my artistic abilities but also provided platforms to engage with diverse audiences, deepening the collective understanding and appreciation of my art.
